Edgar Edward, a very famous US writer and poet, had his life changed forever when he was arrested on suspicion of DUI (Driving Under the Influence) in Connecticut in 1977. The authorities’ main concern was whether he was using or selling alcoholic beverages while driving. A DUI test administered by the arresting officer proved that Edward did indeed have alcohol in his system. He was subsequently charged with impaired driving, having the blood alcohol level over the legal limit, and subsequent possession of drugs paraphernalia, resulting in the charges against him being increased.

Despite this record of bad partying and criminal behavior, it is clear from the writings of Edgar Edward that alcoholism, especially drug addiction, is not an easy vice to conquer. In fact the book that he wrote shortly after his release from prison after serving a sentence for selling drugs was entitled Simply blessed. This is a personal reflection on his path to recovery from alcoholism. Drugs, alcohol and their relationship seem almost impossible to overcome on our own, yet his words of wisdom to make it clear that some help is always welcome.

It may be difficult to believe that a drug addict can be “blessed” in this way, but many drug addicts have turned their lives around through the help and support offered by someone like Edgar Edward. Perhaps more importantly, however, the reader will gain some enlightenment as to how to recover from drug addiction through his simple and wise advice. In short, Drugs, Alcohol and Their Relationship make a valuable addition to any drug addiction treatment program, and for anyone who is struggling with drugs or alcohol. A good summary of this book would be to say that Drugs, Alcohol and Their Relationship are a great drug addiction treatment reference text for college students, men in their 20s, women in their 40s, people in recovery, and anyone else who are interested in learning about drug and alcohol dependency and how it affects the individual.
