With the growing rate of drug and alcohol abuse in our country, many organizations and volunteer groups have popped up to help those in need. One of these is the United Way of Hollywood Hills, an alcohol abuse treatment center that has branches in both Southwestern Los Angeles and North Hollywood. Another organization is the Culinary Workers Union Local Union, which has branches in the greater Los Angeles area. The Union has a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center that can house people for long periods of time, or until they are released from the facility. Other non-profit organizations, such as Reach Out and serve one of the most vulnerable segments of our society, the gay and lesbian community.
There are several specific needs that drug addiction treatment centers address to meet the needs of their clients. Drug rehab is often followed by recovery programs for life, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, or other similar life-improvement oriented groups. Drug abuse treatment is also usually coupled with education programs to further the client’s involvement in their recovery.
Each of these drug abuse rehab centers is staffed by doctors, social workers, nurses, therapists, and psychiatrists, among others. If you have the desire to help in any way, you may wish to consider becoming a volunteer for one of these facilities. Not only will you be making a difference in someone else’s life, but you will also be making a difference in your own life, as well. You may want to search online for local programs in your area. Many times, after you have been through the detox process, you will be able to serve in the program as a counselor, if you so choose.
